Care Guide:

Every care and attention to detail has gone in to the development and production of your new leader.  I would like to offer you a few simple tips so as you can get the most from your leader, in both performance and longevity. With proper care, your furled leader should last you at least a season.

Many anglers like to use tippet rings at the end of their leaders, so for your convenience a non-reflective tippet ring is included threaded on to this leader.  If you do not wish to use the ring, simply slide it off the thin end of the leader.  If you would like to use the ring, thread the butt end (the thick end) of the leader through the tippet-end loop and as you pull the thick end through, slide the ring down until it is secured by the tippet loop.  You can snug it down by knotting your tippet to it and pulling slowly.  Applying a thin coating of Red (tub) Mucelin will waterproof your leader and keep it floating high. If the leader begins to show signs of sinking, another quick coating will resume it’s effectiveness.  Over time, the leader will absorb the Mucelin and become highly resistant to water absorption and take on a more supple feel, further reducing micro-drag and aiding in presentation.  At the end of your days fishing, simply pull the leader free so it is not wound around your reel and allow it to air dry overnight. Another coating of Mucelin before winding back on and storing your reel will help the leader to take on the Mucelin paste.

I recommend using a tippet length no longer than the equal length of your leader, but always greater than 18 inches. The length you use will be of your personal preference. If using the tippet loop, attach your tippet using a loop to loop connection with your favoured loop knot to the thin end of the leader; the thicker end of the leader should be attached to your fly line, with whatever method you prefer.  If using the tippet ring, knot directly to the ring with your preferred knot.  The leader comes with either a small knot at the butt to make connecting to the fly line with a nail knot or needle knot easier, or a loop to connect with loop to loop. If using a knot like the nail knot, do not cut the butt end of the leader until the leader has been securely fastened, as this would cause the leader to unfurl.  If for example, you do use a nail knot attachment and wish to transfer your leader from one fly line to another, simply cut the fly line close to the nail knot leaving the knot intact with a small section of fly line within.  The leader can then be re-tied on to the new fly line and the tag end (with old nail knot) safely removed.
